About Me – Gethin Hill, Photographer

A little bit about me..

I’m a 30 something year old guy living in Brisbane, Australia. I enjoy taking photos of a wide variety of subjects from landscapes and wildlife to live music and events, sports and action to vehicles and still life, and all sorts in between.   Variety is the spice of life and I like to mix it up and keep it interesting, keep pushing my own boundaries and limits and seeing what creativity i can let flow and capture in my images.

I spent many of my younger years living in Melbourne, Australia with my dad, and visiting my mum in Papua New Guinea several times a year.  This really opened my eyes to the world around me and has played a huge part in my love of travel and seeing the rest of the world.  It was this love of travel and wanting to document my travels, experiences and memories with photographs that really got me interested in cameras and the art of photography.

I didn’t get really interested in photography until my mid 20’s. I hadn’t used cameras much earlier on in my life.  Most of my early experience with cameras was the old disposable cameras with a film in them that I would buy at the shop when i needed a camera for the holiday or occasion that i’d drop off at a print place to get the shots developed. This worked well for my purposes at the time and I can remember producing mountain panorama images by sitting several prints next to each other in a frame to hold them all in place.

For a birthday present around the year 2000 or so, I was given a 3.2 megapixel Konica point & shoot which i then used for any of my photography purposes. Holidays, pets and events/occasions were what it was generally used for.  After using this camera for years and enjoying taking photos, I found myself wanting more!  Having always been a creative type of person, I found myself getting bored with just pointing and shooting and not being able to change settings to get different results. The desire to be able to be a bit more creative with my photography and have some control over my shots is what led me to get my first dSLR camera, a Canon EOS 400d (Digital Rebel xti).

The dSLR opened up a whole new world of creativity options for my photography and the addiction of experimenting with different settings, lenses and accessories began!  I’m still enjoying learning and pushing new limits and coming up with new ideas for my photography.

These days, a lot of my photography work comes from the creative and performing art industries as having a musical background myself and having played in bands for years, that’s where my experience and passion seems to always bring me back to, even if I escape to the wilderness for a bit.  Whatever the subject matter is though, i’m more than happy to have a go at capturing it so feel free to get in touch and we can have a chat about your photographic wants and needs.

If you’ve made it this far, thanks for reading and for your interest and support!  Without people to enjoy the images, it wouldn’t have the same satisfaction in taking them.  So thanks again for allowing me to pursue something that I love to do and capture those special images for you all.
